World Opportunities Responds to the Asian Tsunami Disaster

On Sunday, December 26th, 2004, an earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter Scale struck off the western coast of northern Sumatra causing a series of massive waves that besieged the coastal regions of several countries. To date, nearly 150,000 people have died and countless more remain without food, water, shelter, or medical assistance.

Within 48 hours of the first news reports, World Opportunities began airlifting medicines to the affected regions. Already, World Opportunities’ medicines are helping to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of men, women and children. Our task is to prevent the spread of viruses and other infectious diseases that have emerged as a result of the massive flooding and destruction of needed sanitation facilities.

World Opportunities will continue supplying millions of dollars of pharmaceuticals and other medicines to many of the hardest hit regions because the need for medical attention will only grow more pronounced in the months and years ahead.

World Opportunities’ relief efforts will continue as part of our larger, ongoing mission to help prevent the spread of diseases and provide treatment for children suffering from AIDS and other serious illnesses. World Opportunities is committed to providing ongoing medical assistance to children and their families throughout the world.

World Opportunities Unites Charity Dock with Children’s Network International

In late November, World Opportunities formed a joint partnership with Children’s Network International (CNI) to integrate the food distribution programs of both organizations.

CNI has already managed to add several major food suppliers to their burgeoning food distribution project, and World Opportunities gains access to CNI’s firmly established Los Angeles-based port shipping network.

This extensive network will allow major medical relief to reach international shipping ports in key locations where it is desperately needed. This new affiliation will further enhance World Opportunities’ growing ability to reach international people groups with vital, life-saving medicine.

World Opportunities also plans to remain committed to the local community this next year by creating a local medical clinic that will offer extremely costly medicines free-of-charge to homeless and poor families throughout Los Angeles County. Please keep this project in your prayers as we begin the early stages of planning this new local ministry.
