The reality of world poverty is startlingly different from the need we routinely see in urban America. Famine, disease, and violence are commonplace. Yet it is difficult to see the need so clearly until we step out of our own culture and see the truth for ourselves. Once there, we witness the challenging lifestyle and genuine need of people – just like us – who lack so many of the fundamental things we take for granted every day.
Poor nations deserve a Christ-like response. They are overflowing with opportunities to help, to give, and to love. We exist to help meet these basic needs.
- We Send Medicine … like vitamins, antibiotics, and antivirals.
- We Send Christian Literature … like Bibles, Bible study aids, Sunday school and VBS program materials.
- We Send Clothing … to help protect against harsh weather conditions.
The goods and financial support you send are directed to many of World Opportunities distinct outreach programs. We support local and international ministries. Here are just a few of the projects to which our family of donors has contributed:
Kenya Ministry Outreach
For over 40 years, World Opportunities “Help the Children” program has supported over 50 church centers in Kenya, ministering to about 25,000 children and adults every week. This program offers food, pastoral counseling, a Bible Training School to local tribes.
Philippines Medical Outreach
Over the past four decades, we have loaded several hundred 20 and 40 ft. sea containers full of food, medicine, medical supplies, clothing, and literature destined for the Philippines. Organized at our Los Angeles facility, each container is shipped to Manila and Cebu City for distribution throughout the country. Over the years, we have assisted more than 100 hospitals and medical clinics with these supplies.
Southeast Asia Children’s Outreach
Motivated by a tremendous outpouring of compassion, World Opportunities recently began sending shipments of antibiotics, toys, clothing, and hygiene supplies to young girls in rural Thailand and Cambodia who are helpless victims of the thriving sex-trade industry there. The cruel sexual abuse of these children is almost unthinkable, but we believe that through your gifts Jesus can transform these precious lives.
Taiwan Educational Outreach
For over 30 years we have operated a teacher mentorship and training program that has grown to be the largest and most effective educational center of its kind in Taiwan. The program offers superb placement for pre-school and kindergarten children, and trains teachers with the skills required to provide these children with the best education available.
Pacific Theological Seminary Outreach
For more than 10 years World Opportunities has partnered with the Asian Pacific Theological Seminary to train and equip church leaders and pastors with books, Sunday school curriculum, and creative VBS programs. By year’s end this partnership will have reached over 1000 churches, helping to transform the hearts of Filipino natives with the love of Jesus Christ.
Australian Japanese Student Ministry
Early in 2003 World Opportunities missionaries Jack and Keiko Marshall saw a need to minister to Japanese exchange students in Brisbane, Australia. They took a leap of faith, moved to the area, and planted a rapidly growing church called the “i” – an innovative gathering of international college students and local Australian citizens who desire to lift up the name of Jesus Christ.
